Have read many different posts on transom controls. I am looking to avoid having a wheel just to have less exposed gear in the cockpit. Ronnie has shared how he has added cable controls and a jog lever that folds down below the transom covering board, a great design. My question is what is available to work with the AP35 for a control for steering. It seems that both a FU an NFU would work but the FU might be better. Are any of these available off the shelf as a plug and play? From what I read you can also by non Simrad levers but not clear what you need to make them work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think I have one on the shelf. I don't know the size of your steering pump, but when I had it rigged up it was too slow to be effective while fighting a fish.

I have one on my AP 45 and it is slow. If your going to use one think about getting a rudder indicator, I have a tendency to over steer with it

If I did it over I would put a steering helm instead of the ap control.
I've actually considered changing mine out woth a small sea.star.pump and connect steering hoses directly to my steering ram which is 2-3.ft away.
Like a lot of guys do, I would use a handle off an old 130 reel as a wheel.

My electronics guy added an electrical switch so If I move from the helm to either jog lever with that electrical switch engaged, the jog levers become high speed. The rudder indicator is on the lever itself.

    two button remote

The guy that installed mine said he could get me a little remote that I could hang around my neck on a lanyard for about $200...Two buttons, port/starboard. Completely wireless

Mine is wired through the ap with some relays...ap is a raymarine st6000+. It is fast enough for my usage...
