You guys like the offset or in-line better also do you think the ringed hooks take away from keeping the baits shy I’m torn try too keep least amount of Stuff in the water

Many opinions here but i go Trokar Offset and ringed. I feel the ring helps the bait swim more naturally. As for having more "stuff" in the water, yeah the ring adds visibility. It didn't seem like it on my last trip, marked way too many fish with no bite, but i've got some good ways to hide the "stuff".

I used to use the Owner Super Mutu...until i broke off a big fish due to the hook breaking at the offset bend. Turns out, they have a reputation for that based on a lot of feedback from this forum. Switched to Trokar's...haven't had that same issue occur yet. Trokar are also considerably sharper out of the box.

What do you normally fish with? The trokar is a pretty stout hook and seems to run on the large size.

as mentioned - stay away from the owner super mutu - great hook until the tip breaks off at the little offset they started...real weak spot on that hook. i dont know many people that use them anymore. i like the trokars personally, offset. ive bent them slightly, never broke. mustad demon circles are ok too.

ditto on the Super Mutu. They tend to break when the fish is at the boat with little stretch in the mono. 3x for us.

For a size comparison, this is a Trokar 9/0 HD next to a Gama 9/0 Live Bait.

We have fished a lot of different types of circle hooks over the last 9-10 years. We fish light drag at the hookup, and slowly come up to get the hook settled in the hinge. I know I am preaching to the preachers but, every hook has an issue. Here is my input:
    • Trokar HD Offset, 8/0 - This is what we have fished for the last 2-3 years. Had good success on it. Last week we did snap the tips on two of them though. Both out of the same pack...Overall though, been a good hook to us.
    • Mustad Demon Perfect Circle 4X , 9/0, 10/0, 11/0 - The 4X 10/0 is THE BEST circle hook you can fish in my opinion; as far as landing rate, strength, etc. Only problem is it is bigger and heavier. Tough to fish with average size baits. We like to use it on big macks, pogies, and bluefish. Not optimal for average size herring, macks, and squid.
    • Owner Super Mutu, 8/0 and 9/0 - Pulled quite a few of them. Snapped tips.
    • Gami Live Bait HD Circle - I know some guys like them, but this is my least favorite. Pulled 4 in a row one day. Never again.

I switched to all 10/o mustad offset circles last year. First fish year perfect hooksett. Last 4 out of 5 bites pulled the hook. Pulled 3 hooks yesturday, same hook, last one after an hr. Seems like the bigger 700lb plus fish are not getting it lodged deep enough. I'm switching back to all live bait 11/o and will chance gut hooking.
