I was watching tonight the recent Instagram posts of last weekend races. When I zoom in on the up close video’s, I see what looks like weights(mushroom anchors or some else I could not make out). What are these weights doing, I see them on the starboard side and the port side?

Mushroom anchors are used as end weights for trawls. Some boats go better when they are trimmed off , and trim tabs are supposed to be illegal to use in races, so maybe they were being used in that way.One would think lighter is better, but not always the case.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I’m wondering if the high HP creates so much torque that counter weights are needed at top speeds L or R props determines counter weights on port or starboard?
Cruising speed boat is trim no weights?

Yes I have been to a few races over the years -they are fun to watch and view the great looking DE Boats.
I have a DE that at high speed or 80%+ is down on the stbd. side not allowing the hull to maximize the speed.
I have a LH prop. Any thoughts?
I have not gone the way of mushroom anchor trick yet, as its a pleasure boat.
Thanks in advance.
