Eastporter, Glad you noticed the new 48' Northern Bay. With a few commitments for new hulls and tops, this boat might just go into production sooner. Please keep an eye on www.northernbayboats.com

John posted that first line drawing on here a few years back. Seems like Perry is trying to jumpstart his business...?

Move the steering bulkhead back several feet and maybe I can sell my house and move my family aboard :D

Boy they really kept the feel of the design of the 36.

“Available with power from 800hp to 2000hp”...

It will be many years before one gets built, even if you wanted one today. Who is going to build it? Northern Bay could not handle the orders they had on boats that already had a mold. The best bet to get anything close to this boat in a reasonable time frame would be to go see the folks at Morgan Bay boats.

The MR would be quicker turnaround.

Arch, Albert has been doing very well turning out all models of his boats. The Northern Bay 48 is just a drawing on paper at this point.
The MR boats are hard chined variable deadrise and not similar to the smaller Northern Bays in bottom design.

I'm giving this broker the benefit of the doubt about not knowing who he is jumping into business with in Penobscot. Otherwise, he's setting himself up for liability claims down the road. If anyone is looking for first hand info of what it's like to build a boat with Perry Kuiper at Northern Bay, feel free to PM me.

Agreed. This has been a dream of Johns for years. Unfortunately johns retired and Perry runs the shop. Only thing that will get this project started is a guy with a bunch of money that wants to take on owning a mold. I would love too see it become reality I just doubt it ever will under current management.

That drawing has been around for years. There are actually better drawings of the 48 somewhere on here buried in some lost thread. It's never going to happen and it's really a shame. If there was ever a hull that deserved the availability of choices of 42 to 50 foot, this is the hull. The only way I can see it happening is for someone to give someone like MB, a guy with a proven track record of forming relationships, 200K to make a mold. The mold he made for the 43 MB is very impressive. It was a shit ton of work and he was all business getting it done. The title should be changed to read, " old design" for offshore fishing.

First you have to build Perry a finish shop that can fit the 48'. Current infrastructure does not exist. Small detail they forgot to mention.

Does not exist to even make the mold nevermind the hull and even if it did, no one is going to team up with him for that project.

I don’t think you have enough room in johns barn to build the mold but I think you could fit the molds in there to lay up hulls. I’ve seen 2 40’s and the molds laying one up in there at one time. Buying the plans and getting it done on your own would probably be the best bet anyway.

I wonder what the plans are worth? Did Lincoln do the design? I wonder if you could take that plan to a company with a giant cnc machine and have then cut a plug out of a big block of material? How does one go about that?
