If you do get your holders from "The Rod holder Guy" report back to us what you think about the product and maybe some pictures if you don't mind. I will need a bunch soon and looking for options.
    Thanks

Stupid question - but what about Lee rod holders, extra long with backing plate, around $190?

Are all these other custom ones made better, stronger etc?

I don't see anything wrong with the Lee's but I was just looking at all the options. Back in February at the Boston boat show I looked at 3 of the local rod holder builders that were there and to my surprise there was quite the difference between them all, except pricing was all fairly close.

If you look at the r&r fisheries they are probably closest to the Lee as far as looks go. I added a four hole pattern, Lee is three holes. One of the ones your looking at is a knock of of the old LD and those are probably the least expensive. Skurge are very well built and look cool but the plate is large so just make sure they will fit your gunwales. If you want to take a closer look at mine I'll send u one to evaluate. No charge if u don't want it send it back. Good luck with the search.

I started making rod holders back on 1994 because Lee was the only choice and we hated the three holes. My earliest one are still fishing on commercial boats in Gloucester. I just made them for guys I knew word of mouth. Then CJ came along in CT and basically took over the market which was fine with me my business was growing and I didn't have time for it anyway. Then Carl passed away and Louie bought the CJ designs. I had no need to compete with Louie so I stayed out of it. But when he went out I had guys calling me so I got back in but so didn't alot of other guys. So you have alot to choose from now. My tops are cast T316 stainless not machined or laser or waterjet. That's how I get the crown in the top like Lee. Anyway, a little background for what it's worth

Don that is what I wanted but haven't seen anything since Carl's holders. The R&R holders look nice!

Few things I like about Lee, they have been around a long time, new inserts will always be available, never heard of one breaking.
I believe they will also cut to any length for an up charge.
