Congratulations Jerry! Enjoy the rebuild I’m sure you’ll find some surprises. I’ve had a few already that nobody expected, setting engine in this am to get shaft installed.

Good plan, break out the weapons of choice and some ppe
You can always add the scuppers if you want after your done and find water line. Def. on the bilge pump and backup.
Are you going to foam the hull? just wondering.

Some day...
I know what you’re referring to with the “bench” and I don’t get why that was on those boats it made no sense. I cut it out of mine. I would really recommend keeping the scuppers. I just had two rubber plugs that I kept in mine and they didn’t leak at all deck was always dry and it’s nice being able to pull one of the plugs and drain any water that’s on deck. If you’re planning on hauling any traps with it you’ll definitely want that option because it’s not just water that comes up in them there seaweed and kelp and everything else as I’m sure you know. Don’t think the binge pumps will like that too much. Much easier to just pull a plug and drain all that crap in 5 seconds. Just my two cents.

Congrats on the new boat Jerry! Don't know how I missed out on the original thread. I see you already have a 55HP motor courtesy of Wound Up. Nice! Best of luck with your new project. To all who contributed to the boat purchase; That was a very nice thing to do for Jerry and it' just one more reason why this forum is what it is!

Could you build your sump and also put 4" bronze Deckplates on the transom to act like scuppers if needed?

You see that alot on the 32 Hollands.

In the future when you replace the sole (floor) you should replace the stringers with bigger ones (as I did) and this will allow you to add scuppers above the water line. The bilge pump idea is okay for the short term, but agree with others that a self-bailing boat is best for many reasons.

When I do the deck I may raise it or not. I see many boats here in the yard that are not self bailing and they are just fine. No to mention the redundancy of having 2 bilge pumps, and the fact I will likely walk by my boat on a daily basis. Also a visual high water alarm. No it’s not the best, but it is fine for how I will be using the boat, and with several boats I see daily done the same way I am not worried about it.
Now I just have to get the Admiral’s todo list done so I can start on the boat. I will have to cover it so I can move it in and out of the shop so that will be this weeks project.
Keep that gal Happy!
oR ELSE.
