I was thinking of mounting outriggers on the over hang of the new boat so that I can swing them out from the cockpit versus the gunnel. I recall seeing this on Bounty Hunter in Gloucester. There are a bunch of options out there: Taco Grand Slam, Lee's Sidewinder, Rupp Top Gun, Tigress Tigerfish, and GemLux.
    Any experience with these outriggers?
Anyone know what Bounty Hunter used on his boat?

My last boat had Rupp and some are great - make sure the model you get locks into position When trolling. My last set of Rupps could not be locked in trolling position and no matter how much tension you put on them they were not strong enough to hold a large squid bar without coming in. I just purchased on a new to me boat and am evaluating which outriggers to buy and I definitely want the fold out type that can be done under the hardtop as you are describing but they have to lock into trolling position to make them worthwhile. Hoping one of the Rupp brands meets that requirement.

I have no idea but if you want to look at a set of Lee OH277 top mounts they are on Merlin in the veeberth. Ask Andy.
They are discontinued but are worth the search in my opinion.
Most of the twist through the roof type I have seen look like headknockers to me but your results may vary
    Good luck.

Andy says its no problem to install this way and they'll be in the cockpit.

a friend has Rupp Top Guns but one has already failed, the other seemed to work fine when I last fished with him. he thought the failure had more to do with the torque from running really fast in his 42 Invincible.

I'm not sure how to dry test that locking quality, that's why I was asking on here. which model of the Rupps did you have

I was researching via the Tackle Direct site and they provide a little info on operation of each model. that might be a help.

Tackle Direct also sells GemLux, which seem to be the most expensive but I don't know why

Check these out - I have their rod holders and the quality is extremely high. These fold up tight so will not be in the way either.

the GemLux have SS ball bearings, you can also adjust in/out and up/down, that's where the money is

some great videos on GemLux"s site via Utube; they talk about how they build the rigger base and poles really strong so you can pull a dredge as well as a Tag line for high speed trolling. pretty good stuff

I just bought it. I’ve played around with it and the previous owner had nothing but good things to say. They crank in and out easy

I have the blue water rod holders that I installed. I don’t like drilling holes so it is an amazing system with no mounting screws and strong enough to battle giants on a 130. I highly recommend them.

There was a Contender at the Goose Hummock display in the Boston Boat show that had the Gemlux mounts on it. Very solid and robust design. At 33 pounds apiece they didn't short change on the stainless.

GemLux has a bunch of videos on iTunes, they also offer a nice discount to THT members. Duralax advertised on THT that they’re pre-selling their newest Sport light at 50%; these lights have about 17,000 lumens
