Kind of like her post about $42/lb in Japan. They need to work on their math as it is seriously flawed.
According to the market report they did ship a unicorn last week that went for 14,000y/kg on a 185kg fish which is $58.95/lbs on the auction floor.
I saw that. So where did the $42 come from?
Some how their fees on that one were only 29%. I know with Chubby some are % of sale price others weight based &/or fix. The other possibility is she is full of shit...
I would go with the 2nd possibility.... Full of shit
Please explain to all of us how the math is flawed
14000 yen/kg. You can take it from there.
You called the lady out here. You said her math was “seriously suspect”
Since you seem to know so much about the tuna business, please tell us how she got it wrong.
I am still waiting for payment for 3 tuna from Dennis Gore’s Rainbow connection, for well over $11,000 that they promised me!
Hard to believe Nat Geo would put a scumbag like that on their show!
Here we go.
185kg x ¥14k = ¥2.59M
185kg x 2.2lb/kg = 407 lb
¥2.59M x $0.0093 = $24087
$24087 / 407lb = $59/lb
The boat got $42/lb.
Somehow the fish lost 12lbs (original stated it was 419lb) and around $7k were lost in fees?
Or am I wrong?
Given all of the shit that has gone on with Gore, I feel bad for the new guys who have no idea who he is and what he has done.
I was waiting for you to post that, I was thinking of that and you know some of the others that got it stuck to them to. I just didn't want to post names without their permission. Oh and you forgot to mention just how long you have been waiting.
It took me awhile to put the pieces of the puzzle together. But I did.
It would be interesting to hear how many other members are still waiting for their money from Rainbow connection!
Well you know a couple more guys from where I use to sell my fish.
Yes. It interesting to know how many fishermen he ripped off. I believe National Fisheman magazine said he owed people around half a million dollars!
I guess the authorities just don't know how to handle that guy. Yeah fine him 100,ooo and let him go. And the fishermen get none of that money. Yeah that'll stop him. I say take his license, House, Trucks and everything involved in the crime. Then fine him 10000000000. even if you never get a dime he'll never have a good credit score. Oh wait .....Keel haul his A$$ then make him do 1000,000 hours of community service down in the village square. Then, let me "Take him fishing" . See how much I've mellowed out in my Old age.
Instead what we do is put him on a television show that has completely fucked up this fishery. I have changed my previous position in regards to Mr. Gore. If someone will hold open his asshole i will piss in it.
Hope you take this as it's intended, which is advice from someone who used to fish tuna daily, and not trying give you a hard time.
Looking at the "better than coffee" photo I'd say you're being way too soft on that fish. That rod tip should be bent right over if you want to put some real pressure on him. Hand brake them (gloved hand on the reel) when they're taking line, you can instantly adjust the drag that way. When they stop, get on him, and get on him hard.
I never backed down on a fish, always just turned the boat to keep the fish where I wanted him, off the starboard quarter. Backing down you're just taking pressure off the fish. I have "gone along" with a fish to get him out and away from a fleet; turn him, go along, turn him, go along. Nothing like losing a fish that's gone across someone's anchor.
I had a 7 hour battle with a long, mean, "green" fish early in the season years ago when I was still handlining. Took us from the 1st Island to the Mud Hole.
But once I switched to Penn 130's my fights were generally under an hour. Never got into using shy gear, hooked plenty, and never lost that many.
Keep at it, the next one's yours.
Hope this was helpful.
Ha ha now your being more sensible.
