I was recently given a copy of the original sales brochure from 1981 and had not stumbled upon it before. Thought I would scan it and post it for those who may be interested.

Thanks for posting this.
I owned one of the first ones that they built. I spent over 2 weeks w/ the Bruno brothers and I would not accept the boat until they got rid of the shaft wobble and excess vibration. I must have had at least 5-6 "short hauls"at Great Bay Marina to change this and that and on and on.
My boat was the first to leave them with a shaft bearing to eliminate the wobble. They also glassed in a fairing block to the back of the keel to get rid of some of the vibration.
All in all it was a great experience and learning event for me plus I got to indulge in lobster and fried whole belly clams at Newicks everyday for two weeks ( this was way before Lipitor ).
The boat was a head turner where ever we went...
Thanks again for the good memories !!!!!

I learned that the 35 Sport Cruiser had the shear line raised up 4" compared to the 35 work boat hull. I have also noticed that the work boat hulls seemed to have the attached spray rails while the Sport Cruiser models had the molded in variety. I'm guessing that there must have been a new mold created for building the 35 Sport Cruiser, which eventually ended up with Nauset. And for some reason I think the mold for the 35 work boat ended up with Five Islands.

What happened that put them out of business? You'd think with those hulls and location the business would've done alright.

Heard of a problem w/ 42's splitting in half due to a construction flaw, but I think that was going on years before this publication and it seems like they would've weathered through it.

They did have some poor workmanship and lawsuits. I believe a president setting suit which is still used to this day. But I think in the end, Dick just got tired of the hassles and retired to Carolina. Many if not all of the problems were with the cored boats which were sold unfinished. Balsa was new to boatman so when they started boring holes to finish their hulls & mount their gear they left them completely unprotected and many problems developed. When I have removed some of the original fittings on mine in years past, the cutout edges are not filled or sealed just the usual wrapping of cotton string and Dolphinite. I doubt if any boat split b/c even the cored boats were solid in the keel & stem to keep the keel narrow.
You still see a Bruno in about every harbor on the east coast a testament to Lowell's greatest design and Bruno's innovation.

I heard that a 42 split in two (I believe sadly some folks lost their lives :( on a boat where the hull was made in two halves that were later joined. I am unsure of the year of that boat and I am 99% sure that was only a problem for limited years on the 42.

Mine is a cored hull from 1975, I have all the cores from when I re-did the boat. Will post some pics later, the glass is pretty thick all over the boat, almost so that the core wouldn’t have been needed.

I forget the prop specs, may be able to dig them up. I think keelboater knows.. Its a 1:1.51 twin disc I am fairly certain.
Th e3208T just fits under the teak butterfly hatch with sound down in place, and I mean just, perhaps a credit card might fit.
here are a few uploads of us underway on the Western Sound. Some before I completely updated the electronics
I do have interior pictures somewhere if needed
PS this one is solid glass

Thanks for the videos Doc! My old stomping ground. . .used to lay posts on the Great Neck side, in front of Kings Pt Academy and Fort Totten; great area for big blues, stripers and blackfish!

I think it was Bruno, I can remember my father talking about how when it first came out they would go to the boat shows with the cored hull sample and either shoot a bullet at it or hit it with a sledge to show how strong it was.
Was listening to someone who said he used to work there in the day. If what he said was true, I could see things going sideways at times.

I love the lines of the Bruno 35. Our 85' Nauset 35 is moving into our shop mid April for a complete refit. I was able to purchase it last fall after it sat on Facebook Marketplace for over a year. She needs soft decks repaired, new wiring, complete interior, windows, motor service, complete re-paint etc. We are fortunate to have the indoor space and equipment. The 35's have a large cockpit area so we plan to extend the wings at the rear of the cabin side to accommodate a larger rear overhang (running the ladder thru). This will allow us to take advantage of the full length of the cabin sides and split the side windows to two units . I expected to have the boat in our shop earlier this year but work gets in the way. I'd love to follow Keelboater's refit with a re-power and lower shaft log but the cost is not in the cards. Perhaps a larger HP Yanmar than the current 6LP is in our future but I don't plan to set any new speed records in this cruiser. Simply to arrive at Mahogany Shoals for Happy Hour ! The sketch is our new proposed look. The pic is from the Bruno that sold at Watch Hill this past summer we love what the owner did to refit her ! Keelboater .... Thanks for the info on the Bruno 35 !!
